Donors
I added this page to keep track of people who have donated to the National Bone Marrow Registry. I know many of you have made the choice to do this and it means a great deal to not only me, but to the thousands of patients who are in need of bone marrow transplants all across the country. If you have donated, please leave a note with your name. After all of this is said and done, I would love to see 100 new donors as a result of this. However, do not feel obligated to donate – it is a personal decision and one that each person should consider individually.
I have registered thru the Gift of Life registry, but I think it all goes into the same “bucket” that they can pull from…
Sorry Jess. After filling in all of the forms to be a donor, I find out that I don’t qualify to donate. What a loser right? I can’t even give away my parts.
Let’s see: blood / marrow – NO, I take to many meds after all that back surgery. Eyes – NO, can’t see shit. Sperm – NO, don’t have any. Liver – NO, the last Xray I saw it looked like a Scotch bottle. The list just goes on and on. My pinky finger on my left hand is pretty good though. So if you know anyone who needs one let me know.
Be well,
Paul
I’m sending my swabs in on Monday! BTW-Your site looks stupendous! (trying to use something other than amazing) You’re in our thoughts!!
I became a registered donor back in January after a co-worker was diagnosed with leukemia at 46. It’s fast and easy to be tested and if I’m called on to donate marrow it would be the most important thing I’ll ever do after giving birth to my children!
Paul – I hear thumb wrestlers have to retire before their time if injured, how are your thumbs?
I got my pack in the mail today. Better wait to send in my swabs until the anniversary wine wears off!
Jess – from your Supergirl Powers and FB…this from my High School friend who I haven’t seen in about 20 some years…
“Ok my FB friends, I am putting this up again as I did not hear from many of you. My friend Gigi has a friend who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. She is 34, mom of 2, wife, and from what I can see an amazing woman. Please look into registering to be a bone marrow donor. For Gigi’s friend, and for any of us that …may need this one day. It’s free, it’s painless and it is fast. I promise, I did it.”
“again, my pleasure. I looked at her blog, i can see why she is called supergirl…. amazing. let me know if you guys need anything from the community at large, i will do what I can- prayers are with you all…”
“Got one more friend registered on the marrow registry- I thought I saw on the Supergirl site that she was keeping track- Mia in Elizabeth City, NC registered today after I posted your link to my profile. I’ll keep pushing, such a needed thing.”
Wow Gigi, that is incredible – so thoughtful, selfless and generous of someone who is a complete stranger to me. Truly amazing. You never know how many lives could be saved by this. Please thank your friend from the bottom of my heart. I am forever grateful.
Waiting for my swab in the mail. Someone I work with was a match and donated for a little boy in California- it has been two years and he is doing fabulous. What an easy way to change a life. Can’t believe I havent registered sooner.
Joel and I became donors about 4 or 6 weeks ago for an old friend who needs a transplant for lymphoma. Joel actually just got his donor ID card today.
I sent mine in and I’m going to post it on my FB wall again to remind people!
See you tomorrow Jess
Done!
Yeah! You guys rock!
Mine should hopefully arrive and be there when I get back from the beach!
Jess, I am so thrilled that you have helped so many do one little thing that can help so very much! I have decided, in your honor, to try and find one thing every month that I never knew about before that I can do to help someone else (I will post on FB each month) as I love the idea of opening your eyes to a world you never knew was there and realizing your little contribution can mean the world to someone else. You are an inspiration!
I’ve been on the registry since the 90′s and Alec is getting a kit to get on the list. I’ve also forwarded the information to join the registry to the church I attend so they can get this out to everyone.
Thank you for focusing on the positive, you are an inspiration to so many. My prayers for are for your wellbeing and healing.
The National Registry is close to my heart as my son, daughter, and I are registered. It was five years ago when my son received a memorable call. An 11 yr old girl with leukemia ‘may’ be a match. As it turned out, they were a perfect match~ 12 of 12 markers!
Today, Katie is a healthy 16 year old, in complete remission, preparing to graduate high school in 2011. There are many success stories, I am a believer that good comes of everything.
Please know you are not alone, there are many who have you in their thoughts & prayers.
Hey Jessica, Peggy and I tried but found out they do not take old folks (60+). I will send out a call to some of my younger email buddies.
I’m in!
Sent the kit back and am just waiting for the confirmation of receipt.
Philip and I did our swabs a couple weeks ago!
I returned my swabs about a month ago.
